DANCES WITH DOGS CLUB, QUEENSLAND
The Dances with Dogs Club, Queensland (DWDCQ) was formed in April 2009 with the primary objective of promoting and facilitating the development of DWD in Queensland. DWDCQ was initially approved by the Canine Control Council (Queensland) as a social club and has made remarkable progress throughout its first year. The club has now successfully applied for full affiliate status with the CCCQ, which was granted effective from 1 January 2010.
During its short existence, DWDCQ has been the beneficiary of an amazing amount of goodwill from individuals and organisations, demonstrating a high level of support for this new discipline and for our Club. DWD enthusiasts in Queensland (and beyond) are indebted to Coral Pethers for her enthusiasm and foresight in promoting DWD in Australia from its infancy, in 2007, and for gaining the support of the Toowoomba Dog Obedience Club, which committed to supporting DWD for a period of five years. Toowoomba DOC has been extremely generous to DWDCQ, also, through its donation of a sound system, with the CCCQ also funding the external speakers – very significant sums of money were involved in each case. Camp Tailwaggers has made generous donations to the Club from the profits of DWD camps, and both Camp Tailwaggers and VIP pet foods have been regular and generous sponsors of DWD competitions. Individual members have also made a huge commitment – of their time and talents, as well as financial contributions.
The Club meets approximately 6 weekly, in Brisbane and normally in conjunction with some other DWD activity. The business papers for each meeting are emailed to all members so that even those who are remote from Brisbane are able to keep abreast of the Club’s activities and can contribute to discussion by providing feedback which is reported to the meeting. Minutes from the meetings are also circulated to all members, as are the Club newsletter and any other items which may be of interest to members.
The Club notifies members of forthcoming training opportunities, and completed its first 4 week training programme in May 2010.
Membership applications can be downloaded and sent, along with membership fees, to:
